What Made Milwaukee Famous - Hellodrama →
when i first heard this song, i played it on loop 20 times. i couldn’t get enough of it. this was almost two years ago, and I still love this song.
hellodrama is pop rock at its pinnacle (or at least for me). angsty, pure, gutsy vocals + handclaps + driving guitar + GREAT singalong sections + just enough synth to keep things interesting. i want to BE this song. enjoy

Tigercity - Are you Sensation →
this is pure cheeseball fun. i love it. the 80s synth, the overdramatic bass, the falsetto choral hooks
but then there are those funky frisky guitar jams, the bongos, and a killer instrumental break midway through that make me go hmm.
either way, i love it.
fans of phoenix will be comfortable here.

gomez - in our gun →
Gomez is rocksteady. since the early 2000s they’ve been putting out inventive, well-crafted, nearly virtuosic tunes. they have a new album out now (A new Tide). i can’t wait to digest it.
this track, “In Our Gun,” is from their album of the same name. Beautiful, meandering acoustic intro (love that upright bass), with ian ball crooning until it becomes dark, edgy,...
Matt goes to court. Part 1: Jury Selection
AKA Why Me?
Many of you know that for the past two weeks I’ve been on jury duty. Many of you have also been very curious to know what that actually involves. Here is my best shot at describing what i’ve been up to, in a series of posts I will call “Matt goes to Court”
(where i spent the last two weeks)
When I lived in Boston, I had been called to jury duty once - I...

Jamie Lidell - Another Day →
I love this song, and I love this album. Jamie Lidell is one of those guys who has no right being as soulful as he is. He makes the kind of music mornings were meant for (try playing this song on the way to work or before stepping into the shower, you’ll see what i mean).

Extremely warm, gooey, tap-along goodness. Reminds me of fleet foxes actually.

Acoustic guitars + handclaps + jaunty chorus + singalong + recorder = good times (and also potential Wes Anderson soundtrack choice)
